Mayor's Message

Being your Mayor over the past year and a half has been remarkable.  It has been a pleasure working with the Council, while listening to you and supporting the Village team in continuing to make our community a wonderful place to live.  During this time, we have seen the opening of the Recreation Centre – initiated with determination by the previous Council and we have received the Northern Capital Planning Grant – giving us the ability to plan for and upgrade critical infrastructure.

In sharing this good news, my mind is occupied for the safety of all of our community members, notably those who remain abroad and those isolating at home.  It has been said many times over the past few weeks, but words cannot be truer, “we are in this together”.  This is the time to model the right behaviour.  Remain calm, take care of yourselves and call your neighbours to see how they are doing.

The Province is coordinating the response to ensure that BC is effectively positioned to manage the pandemic.  This will include securing critical supply chains, making sure critical infrastructure and materials are readily available, ensuring people have access to essential goods and services, and ensuring public safety orders are enforced.  Please check the Village of Hazelton website or Facebook page for details of COVID-19 Provincial Support and Information.  You can also call the office if you are unable to access information online.

Together, we will get through this and come away stronger and wiser for it.

Mayor Dennis Sterritt
